NAMI-Lehigh Valley offers an educational presentation called In Our Own Voice (IOOV). For this program, two individuals with mental illness present their personal stories about living with mental illness and achieving recovery. Recovery is seen as the point in someone’s illness when the illness is no longer the first and foremost part of his or her life.

The goal of the presentation is to enable listeners to develop a better understanding of what it is like to live with a mental illness and stay in recovery. During and after the presentation, audience members are encouraged to ask questions.

We offer this free program to a variety of groups: law enforcement officials, educators, providers, faith groups, politicians, inmates, individuals with mental illness, students, and other interested civic groups.

Contact our Lehigh Valley NAMI office at 610-882-2102 or at if your group is interested.

“The IOOV speakers did a wonderful job. The presentation was very inspiring. What I found most powerful were the personal pieces that followed each video segment … [Tom] and Susan were extremely patient … and responsive to the feedback of those who shared their thoughts and asked questions. I am so glad that we were able to have this presentation at the EAC.”
